The season at Black Bull has officially arrived! With Mother’s Day weekend upon us and the course looking better every day, the Club is buzzing with activity. This week is defined by a celebration of the game and our community, featuring everything from elite equipment fitting to world-class spirits.
We lead this week’s update with a focus on "playing fair and posting fast," highlighting essential reminders regarding USGA Handicapping. For those looking to sharpen their game or their style, we have the TaylorMade Demo Day arriving this Sunday alongside the final days of our Mother’s Day Apparel Sale in the Pro Shop. We also want to ensure all members are familiar with our updated Fitness Center Etiquette to keep our private facilities comfortable for everyone.
At the clubhouse, the energy is high as we prepare for a soulful night of music with Luke Flansburg on Thursday and a complimentary journey through Jalisco with our Volcán Tequila Tasting this Friday. While our Mother’s Day Brunch is now officially at capacity, we are already looking ahead to the sunshine with the announcement of our Memorial Day Poolside BBQ. Whether you are joining us for a tasting, a fitting, or a casual round, we look forward to seeing you at the Club this week.

New Feature: Digital Membership Cards Now Available
As we move into the 2026 season, we are excited to introduce a new membership validation tool within the Black Bull App. This feature will streamline your experience at the Club, from checking in for rounds to verifying your member status at Bar 72.
How to Register: To get started, simply open the Black Bull App and click on the avatar icon in the top right corner of the screen. Once you enter your membership information, the app will generate your unique digital membership card.
Once you have successfully registered and generated your digital card, please send a brief confirmation email to paul@blackbullbozeman.com to complete the validation process.
Why Download the App? Beyond this new validation tool, the app is becoming your central hub for all things Black Bull. We are also excited to announce that your Weekly Newsletter will soon be available directly within the app, making it easier than ever to stay updated on the go.

GOLF UPDATE
Play Fair, Post Fast: Understanding Your USGA Handicap
The USGA handicapping system is designed to provide golfers with a fair and equitable way to compete against players of different skill levels. One of the fundamental principles of this system is the requirement to post scores on the day of play. By promptly recording their scores, golfers ensure that their handicaps accurately reflect their current playing abilities. This allows for a more level playing field and promotes fair competition among golfers.
In addition to posting scores, the USGA handicapping system employs a method called Net Double Bogey to calculate adjusted scores. This method ensures that a player's handicap is applied in a consistent and equitable manner across different courses and playing conditions. By using Net Double Bogey, golfers determine their maximum score on each hole based on their course handicap. They then post their hole-by-hole scores to get the correct adjusted score, which takes into account the difficulty of the course and the player's handicap.

Beginning Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, the pool will open and Bar 72 will be open seven days a week for the season.

We are eager to provide a memorable experience for all moms and their guests with our signature Beef Wellington and seafood selections.

48-Hour Notice: Cancellations require at least 48 hours’ notice to avoid the full event fee.

Midweek Mingle: Social Hour on the Driving Range
Looking for the perfect midweek unwind? Join us on the range for a relaxed evening of golf and great company. We’ve reserved hitting bays specifically for this event so you can swing away while enjoying drinks available for purchase.
Head Golf Professional Jake Hagedorn will be on-site to mingle with the group, offering a “slice” of advice and professional insight for anyone looking to refine their game in a low-pressure environment.

Memorial Day Poolside BBQ: Celebrating the Start of Summer
Summer officially arrives at Black Bull on Monday, May 25th, with the grand opening of the pool. We invite you to spend the afternoon poolside, enjoying the sunshine, high-energy music, and the company of your fellow members as we kick off the season in style.
From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will be serving a premier BBQ buffet featuring all the classic summer favorites—perfect for a relaxed holiday gathering. To set the vibe, a live DJ will be on-site providing the soundtrack to your afternoon as you lounge, swim, and take in the holiday.

Pricing: $35 Adults | $20 Children
Atmosphere: Live DJ and poolside dining.
Member Exclusivity: In honor of the holiday and to ensure all members have the opportunity to enjoy the pool opening, this event is Member-Only; no guests will be permitted.
