New Feature: Digital Membership Cards Now Available
As we move into the 2026 season, we are excited to introduce a new membership validation tool within the Black Bull App. This feature will streamline your experience at the Club, from checking in for rounds to verifying your member status at Bar 72.
How to Register: To get started, simply open the Black Bull App and click on the avatar icon in the top right corner of the screen. Once you enter your membership information, the app will generate your unique digital membership card.
Once you have successfully registered and generated your digital card, please send a brief confirmation email to paul@blackbullbozeman.com to complete the validation process.
Why Download the App? Beyond this new validation tool, the app is becoming your central hub for all things Black Bull. We are also excited to announce that your Weekly Newsletter will soon be available directly within the app, making it easier than ever to stay updated on the go.

GOLF UPDATE
Welcome Back Joey Lovell as Our Director of Instruction!
We’re thrilled to announce that Joey Lovell is returning to the club as our new Director of Instruction — and we couldn’t be more excited about having him back!
For many of our members, Joey is already a familiar face, which makes this feel less like an introduction and more like a homecoming. Since his time here, Joey has built an incredible résumé in competitive golf, coaching, and club leadership—highlighted by his induction into the Montana State Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2023.
Joey’s journey started in Sandpoint, Idaho, and took him through collegiate golf at Lewis-Clark State and Boise State before pursuing professional golf. After a short stint playing professionally, he returned home to serve as the Head Golf Professional at The Idaho Club, the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Idaho.
When Joey first arrived in Bozeman in 2013, he quickly became a key part of the team as First Assistant Golf Professional and later Director of Operations. His impact here left a lasting impression, and we’re excited to see that energy return in this new role.
Most recently, Joey wrapped up his fifth and final season (2025–2026) as Assistant Women’s Golf Coach at Montana State University—and what a run it was. During his time with the Bobcats, the program experienced the most successful stretch in its history, including four straight top four finishes at the Big Sky Championships, multiple tournament wins, NCAA Regional appearances, and a program-best national ranking of No. 93.
From 2022 to 2026, the team rewrote the record books with 13 individual victories, two National Golf Invitational invites, and back-to-back Big Sky individual champions. Joey played a huge role in developing players and building that success.
And he’s still getting it done himself—winning the Montana State Amateur in both 2021 and 2022, qualifying for U.S. Open Final Qualifying twice, 2015 & 2021, and competing in the 2022 U.S. Amateur.
What excites us most, though, is what Joey brings to our membership. His passion for teaching, deep knowledge of the game, and ability to connect with players of all skill levels make him the perfect fit to lead our instruction programs.
Joey, his wife Kelly, and their two sons, Jack and Jones, call Bozeman home—making this a true full-circle moment for their family and for our club.
Be sure to welcome Joey back when you see him around the club, and keep an eye out for upcoming clinics, lessons, and player development programs this season. You won’t want to miss the chance to work with him!

The Roundup: Final Player Reminders & Shotgun Details
The Countdown is On: June 5–6!
As we prepare for one of the highlight events of the early season, we want to remind all registered participants that The Roundup officially kicks off on Friday, June 5th and Saturday, June 6th. To ensure a seamless pace of play and an exceptional tournament experience, please note the daily schedule and player policies below:
Morning Preparation:
Fuel up before you tee off. Breakfast and a fully stocked Bloody Mary Bar will be open and available to all players starting at 8:00 AM each morning.
The Shotgun Start:
Please be in your carts and ready to roll for a sharp 9:00 AM Shotgun Start each day.
Attendance & Roster Policy:
If your schedule has changed and you are no longer able to participate, please contact the Golf Shop immediately. Because fields are set and resources are allocated in advance, teams that do not show and fail to notify the Golf Shop prior to the event will still be charged the full registration fee.
We look forward to an incredible two days of competition and camaraderie on the course.
Golf Course Pairing Policy
To help improve pace of play and maximize tee time availability, all single players and twosomes scheduled to play between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. daily will be paired together whenever possible to create groups of three or four players.
This policy applies to all members and guests unless the Golf Professional Staff otherwise approves.

Maximizing group size during peak hours allows more members to access preferred tee times.

Make Bar 72 your weekend destination. We are excited to welcome you back for lunch service this Friday through Sunday! Whether you’re stopping in after a morning on the back nine or gathering with family, join us this week to enjoy great food and exceptional company.
Looking ahead, the ultimate kickoff to summer is just around the corner. Beginning Memorial Day (Monday, May 25th), the pool will officially open for the season—and Bar 72 will transition to seven-day-a-week service for the rest of the summer.

Napa Valley Comes to Black Bull: Miner Family Wine Tasting
Experience the spirit of Oakville right here at home. We are delighted to host a special evening on the patio featuring the prestigious Miner Family Winery on Wednesday, May 20th.
This relaxed, mingle-style event offers the perfect opportunity to explore world-class varietals at your own pace. Memorial Day Poolside BBQ: Celebrating the Start of Summer
Summer officially arrives at Black Bull on Monday, May 25th, with the grand opening of the pool. We invite you to spend the afternoon poolside, enjoying the sunshine, high-energy music, and the company of your fellow members as we kick off the season in style.
From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, we will be serving a premier BBQ buffet featuring all the classic summer favorites—perfect for a relaxed holiday gathering. To set the vibe, a live DJ will be on-site providing the soundtrack to your afternoon as you lounge, swim, and take in the holiday.
