The Black Bull Newsletter April 20 - 26

  • Apr 21
  • 6 min read

As we approach the final week of April, the momentum at Black Bull is shifting from early-season preparation to a full slate of daily activity. With the sun staying out longer and our spring maintenance programs in full effect, we are dedicated to ensuring every blade of grass and every clubhouse detail is ready for the busy months ahead. Whether you are adjusting your practice routine to our new range schedule or looking ahead to an elegant evening on the patio, the energy of the season is truly upon us.

We lead this week’s update with essential Golf Operations information, including our Updated Driving Range Hours and a critical guide on Protecting the Greens through proper bunker and pitch mark care. We also share an inside look at our current Aeration Process and why these steps are vital for championship-quality turf this summer.

At the clubhouse, the culinary season is in high gear. We are thrilled to host our Sold Out Sushi Workshop this evening, and looking further into May, the calendar is brimming with variety. From a soulful night of Live Music with Luke Flansburg to our Annual Mother’s Day Brunch and a newly announced Miner Family Wine Tasting on the patio, there is no shortage of opportunities to gather. We look forward to seeing you at the Club.

GOLF UPDATE

Dial In Your Game: Updated Driving Range Hours

With the season now in full swing, please take note of our updated operating hours for the driving range. To ensure our grounds team can maintain the quality of the turf and perform clean pickings, we have established the following schedule:

Opening Hours:

Tuesday – Sunday: Opens at 9:30 AM

Monday: Opens at 11:30 AM

Closing Hours:

Monday, Wednesday, & Sunday: Closes at 6:00 PM

Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, & Saturday: Closes at 7:00 PM

Protecting the Greens: Bunkers & Pitch Marks

We take great pride in the championship conditions at Black Bull, and we invite our members to partner with us in maintaining them. Please remember to thoroughly rake bunkers after use to ensure a fair lie for the group behind you.

On the greens, we encourage everyone to follow the "Yours Plus One" rule: always repair your own pitch mark plus one other. Fixing a ball mark within the first few minutes allows the turf to recover almost immediately, whereas an unrepaired mark can take weeks to heal. Thank you for helping us keep our

greens smooth and true!

Investing in Our Turf: Why We Aerate

You may notice our team out on the course performing essential maintenance this week. We are currently aerating the greens to relieve soil compaction and improve the flow of air, water, and nutrients to the roots. This process is vital for keeping the turf healthy and ensuring elite playing conditions throughout the heat of the summer.

While playing conditions may be temporarily affected by the aeration holes and topdressing, this process is essential for long-term green quality. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we invest in the health of our fairways and greens.
