February 16 – 5:00 pm - Grip, Set-up, & Alignment
Grip: A good grip is one of the most important pieces to the golf swing and is many times overlooked. An improper grip can often result in poor shots. We will discuss and demonstrate:
- Both grips – interlock and overlap
- The pros and cons of each style
- Identify what each incorrect grip shot looks like
- Re-gripping exercises
Set-up: A solid athletic set up with good posture is the foundation for a well balanced and repeatable golf swing. Injuries can even result from an improper set-up. We will discuss and demonstrate:
- The different set up for each club
- Exercises to reinforce a good set-up
- We will also be doing a video comparison with each participant’s set-up and a tour player’s set-up
Alignment: Proper body and club head placement is crucial to hitting quality golf shots at the intended target. We will evaluate and correct each participant’s alignment.
March 13 – 5:00 pm – Course Management
The goal of this class is to know how to make smart decisions on the golf course.
We will discuss how to think your way around the golf course, including:
- Which side of the tee box to tee from
- How to get a ball close to a hole location when the pin location is difficult
- Choosing the right club to hit at the right time
- Adjusting to outside weather conditions
April 10 – 5:00 pm – 2012 Rule Changes
The USGA, in conjunction with the R & A, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. The rules are updated on a regular basis. The central guiding principal for golf is:
Play the ball as it lies, play the course as you find it, and if you cannot do either, do what is fair. But to do what is fair, you need to know the Rules of Golf.
The course will cover:
- New rules for 2012
- Basic rules and definitions (ie water hazards, lateral hazards, lost ball, etc) and how they apply to Black Bull
- How to use a rule book, (which is helpful to find on-course rulings during a tournament)
- Rule applications and specific ruling issues that have affected the participants
