Black Bull Amenities: Swim & Tennis Center

Black Bull Swim & Tennis Center Rendering by Locati Architects

One of the first community structures that will available to Black Bull residents and members is the Locati designed Swim & Tennis Center. This 3500± square foot building will be completed by fall 2007 in time for the soft opening of the golf course.

The Swim & Tennis Center (STC) will serve as the interim pro shop until the main clubhouse is completed. The facility will be equipped with men’s and women’s locker rooms, grill and snack bar.

Also available is an event lawn that overlooks the 1st and 9th fairways and the golfers’ halfway house. The main features of the STC will be the stainless steel swimming pool – a first to the valley – as well as 2 hard-court tennis courts, to open in the summer of 2008.

Reknowned Artist To Produce Sculptures For Black Bull

Jim Dolan came to Bozeman over 35 years ago to attend Montana State University and earn a degree in agriculture education. His nationally recognized sculptures are a mainstay in the Gallatin Valley. He has contributed works such as the geese flying from the Gallatin Field airport ceiling or the large school of trout swimming along the hillside above the fish hatchery.
Black Bull has commissioned Jim Dolan to create a very special herd of cattle to graze along the edge of the stream at the entrance of the Black Bull property. A single bull and four cows will be installed early summer. The steel bovine sculptures will be slightly larger than life with the bull standing at 6 feet 2 inches at the shoulder and the cows at 5 feet.
Landscape architect, Yul Roe, had worked with Dolan on a previous project in the Palm Springs area. The two reconnected to create Black Bull’s herd.

According to Jim Dolan, “It’s been fun working with Yul and Mike and these guys. When you get to do a grouping like this project, its fun to see how they interact with each other and with people coming in and out of the development.”
We'll let you know when the sculptures are complete and installed.

Bridger Bowl Closed For The Season

Bridger Bowl closed yesterday (Tuesday April 10th), however that just means that its time to hang up the skis and pull out the golf clubs or fishing poles.

We saw an impressive amount of snow fall in the mountains of southwestern Montana this past February with accumulations over 85 inches…that’s over 7 feet of snow! And all of that snow was just a preview of the epic 30 inch powder day we had on March 1st. The blue beacon that sits atop the Baxter building in the heart of downtown Bozeman seemed to never quit flashing.

For those of you who don’t know, the beacon is a monument of Bozeman skiing and often a call to hit the slopes and play hooky from work or school. The blue beacon is an old runway strobe light and was installed on the roof of the Baxter building in 1988. The crew at Bridger Bowl remotely activates the beacon when 2 inches or more of snow has fallen within the previous 24 hours.

So, now it’s time to enjoy Montana spring and summer and all of the activities near the Black Bull golf community. There’s tons to do in southwestern Montana, so get out there.

Where To Ski

Bozeman is located near great ski options and if downhill skiing is your flavor then there are three places to go to get your fill. All are near Black Bull.

The closest is Bridger Bowl, a 45 minute drive from Black Bull. Bridger Bowl offers 1,500 skiable acres on Forest Service land in the Bridger Mountains and is reputed as Bozeman’s community ski hill. No need to be flashy here – just relax and enjoy the view. The terrain is varied for beginners or experts or anyone in-between. There are two lodges for lunch breaks or after ski refreshment.

Another local favorite is newcomer Moonlight Basin. This ski resort is located near Big Sky and in fact connects to Big Sky Resort to create the “largest skiing in America”. Moonlight’s northern exposure keeps the snow light and powdery longer and their longest run is 6 miles. Moonlight is about a 60 minute drive from Black Bull.

Big Sky Resort is the big one. 3,800 skiable acres of their own and when they team up with Moonlight Basin one could possibly not ski the same run twice in a day. Located in Big Sky, about 60 minutes from Black Bull, this ski mecca satisfies with the variety of difficulty as well as the surprisingly short lift lines.

Construction Update - April 2, 2007

With the winter snows gone, construction at Black Bull is ramping up for another busy spring and summer. So far the construction is right on schedule. Here’s where we’re at:

Golf Course – Grading and irrigation of the Tom Weiskopf-designed golf course was nearly finished in 2006 and will be completed in early spring of 2007. In May, grassing of the tees, greens and fairways will begin in preparation for a soft opening in the late summer.

Swim and Tennis Center – RMR Group is progressing smoothly with the construction of the Swim and Tennis Center (which will serve as our temporary clubhouse). The framing is complete with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades well underway. The structure is scheduled to be complete by late summer and will have an opening to coincide with the golf course.

Infrastructure – Sime Construction has been working on the underground infrastructure since January 2007. Work has progressed smoothly and the completion date remains to be in mid-summer of 2007.

Club Home Models – RMR Group is also making great progress on the construction of two club home models that are slated for completion in late summer. Both homes have been framed and roofed with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing contractors working in them.

You can check out the website for more information on the Black Bull developers, the championship golf course, and all aspects of the project. More to follow soon!
