Reknowned Artist To Produce Sculptures For Black Bull
Jim Dolan came to Bozeman over 35 years ago to attend Montana State University and earn a degree in agriculture education. His nationally recognized sculptures are a mainstay in the Gallatin Valley. He has contributed works such as the geese flying from the Gallatin Field airport ceiling or the large school of trout swimming along the hillside above the fish hatchery.Black Bull has commissioned Jim Dolan to create a very special herd of cattle to graze along the edge of the stream at the entrance of the Black Bull property. A single bull and four cows will be installed early summer. The steel bovine sculptures will be slightly larger than life with the bull standing at 6 feet 2 inches at the shoulder and the cows at 5 feet.
Landscape architect, Yul Roe, had worked with Dolan on a previous project in the Palm Springs area. The two reconnected to create Black Bull’s herd.
According to Jim Dolan, “It’s been fun working with Yul and Mike and these guys. When you get to do a grouping like this project, its fun to see how they interact with each other and with people coming in and out of the development.”
